Cécile
stolen songbird
The princess arrived in Elysium on the tides, carried to the shores of the Toran peninsula by a particularly powerful wave. She was drenched to the bone, her breath coming in heavy, wet coughs as she expelled seawater from her lungs. Her normally pristine flaxen mane was tangled with seaweed, her coat a dull, dingy yellow in its dampened state.

For sure, this was distinctly not how she had intended upon arriving. It had been her luck that the ship which had been carrying her had come up against a massive storm at sea. It had come without warning, cresting over the horizon and quickly overtaking them, and she had been washed overboard with a particularly powerful wave. As it was, she was lucky to be alive... but that did not exactly make her situation much better.

Cécile finished coughing up the ocean from her lungs and sighed heavily, her sides heaving. As she picked her head up from the beach, it was coated with fine grains of sand all down her neck and shoulder. A few moments more and she found the strength to rise onto slender legs that were shaking from weeks at sea and her near-drowning. She carefully turned her delicate head to assess herself, but what she found was rather appalling.

She looked like a drowned rat. This would not do, not at all. Cécile de Troyes was a lady, not some urchin who washed up on shore like driftwood. Though it was rather un-ladylike of her, the mare shook her body to rid it of as much of the sand and excess water as possible. Then, she turned her emerald gaze to the strange land upon which she had found herself. It was a small peninsula that jutted out from the mainland a fair distance, with a rather treacherous-looking beach that had been worn ragged from the waves. She counted herself lucky that she had washed up on one of the few smooth patches of beach, rather than the jagged rocks that littered the shoreline not far away. A loud and indignant snort escaped her nostrils.

"Well isn't this just wonderful?"

The words came out in a huff, her voice ragged from the coughing, but even so you could hear the beauty hidden beneath. For the moment, the mare simply observed her surroundings, catching her breath before she set off to find someone who could tell her where in the world she had ended up.

The black winged mare chuffed as she sniffed the air. A large herd of deer were grazing about 20 feet away. Lowering her wings to her side, Charna crept up to the herd with a silent, predatory gait. The Vamperyn hid in the shadows as the deer started to get nervous; licking her lips, she circled the herd. The deer whimpered and huddled close as their leader, a large stag, looked for an opening.

He found one, in some dense bushes. With a bellow, he charged towards the perceived safety of the thickets. His herd leapt after him, but not all would make it alive. A single doe was struggling to keep up. She had broken her shoulder by bashing it on a tree; having been pushed into the bark by the herd.

Charna was on her, a quick bite to the spine and jugular ensured a quick death. She drained the blood and savored the meat. after eating her fill, she brought it to her cave and placed it in a hole. The saltwater that entered the hole preserved the meat, enabling the mare to eat it at a later date.

Looking over at the bowl of grass she had chosen as almost a corral for future pets; should she find any that are willing, she walked down the step-like stone formation and onto the softness of the grass.  Taking a bite of grass, she ate as she walked to a fresh water spring in the area and drank.

Life was good, if a bit lonely. Well, she did have Red Robin. The poor dear had traveled a long way to find her and to stand at her side once more.

A sound made her look towards the ocean surrounding the Peninsula.  It was the sounds of a horse splashing onto the shoreline. Turning towards the cave,  Charna cantered to the outlook the cave was on.

It was a mare...... interesting. Why did she come from the water, she didn't seem to be a swimmer.

Well.... there was one way to find out. The Vampryn gracefully cantered slowly down to the shores and towards the mare.

"Why, hello, Dear. What brings you here?" she spoke in a velvet voice that could entrance stallions

She had been looking the other way, and was startled when she heard hoofbeats approaching. Immediately, her delicate head whipped towards the sound and her emerald eyes widened at the approach of a dark, shadowy figure. As the being got closer, Cécile's sharp eyes could see that it was another woman... but there was something inherently unsettling about her. Instinctively, the golden woman took a few steps backward, one hind leg dipping into the sea again. She tossed her head, trying to comb her mane back into some semblance of tame. She did not know who this woman was who approached, but Cécile was a lady and ladies did not look like they had just been spit up by the ocean.

The other female's sultry voice rang out on the wind that tossed about the peninsula. It sent a strange thrill down Cécile's spine, a sort of tingling that felt foreign and dangerous... but also somehow familiar, like a distant memory. She hesitated a moment, eyes scanning the horizon, before resigning to her fate. For the moment, at least, she was alone with this stranger.

"Oh, hello ma'm. Um... I was on a ship travelling to the land of Trollus when we were caught in a massive storm...The ship was destroyed and I am fortunate enough to have washed up here...

Her voice was quiet and raspy at first, but grew more confident by the time she had finished. It was almost flippantly that she added:

"Where exactly is here anyway?

"Why this is The Toran Penninsula, a small part of the large land you have found yourself in. Personally, I was never one for entirely remembering the names of places, not when they are so vastly different. "

The Vampryn eyed the mare with almost a predator's stare. The question was. however, if the seeming fragile mare before her would be the bird that froze in front of a snake or would she be the fox whom glared at the hound in the final moments of death. The Pegasus nearly laughed at the flippant tone in the mare's voice. This young one obviously had not a single clue who, or rather what, she was.  "What how you speak to others, they  may want to bite." She stepped closer, showing her teeth the same was a wolf might.  Charna circled the mare twice before standing in her orgional location, on a rock that lifted her a bit more taller than she already was.

She held her wings in a relaxed position, seeming almost bored. She had seen this  attitude in equine and many other creatures before, it was nothing new. In her homelands, this would be solved with a quick snap of the teeth or a single bite to the neck. The creature whom dared to seem better would learn the value of work and staying alive. Charna almost smiled fondly remembering a fool of a stallion whom dared to attempt to overcome her. He wanted a child.....

   To bad Charna wanted blood.

"I am Charna Tanith, among the few Vampryns left in the world. If there are any besides myself anyways." She said this matter of factly. The truth was, it was how they went down that was disgraceful.  Charna promised to find and conquer at least one of those fool plant eaters whom dared to catch her tribe when they were unable to fight.  If she could not find one such equine?

    Any would do.

Delicate ears swiveled back and forth as the... Vampryn spoke. She had not heard of such creatures, and yet she knew that there were many strange things in the world. The dark woman circled her and Cécile resisted a primal urge to spin her body and never let the other woman be at her back. She did not know why she felt like this, but she swallowed the impulse and stood stock still. She kept her head high, but felt a shiver run down her spine at the woman's words.

"I apologize if I offended. That was not my intent."

Cécile worked to keep the tightness from her voice. Part of it was the sense of unease that was worming its way through her gut... the other was indignance that this woman thought a simple question so offensive. Had she come to a land that treated such innocent, obvious questions with such contempt? Still, the words that fell from her golden lips cleverly hid the emotions, belying only an honest apology.

When the other woman introduced herself, Cécile returned the favor in kind. She kept it simple, not betraying too much information to this stranger... just enough to be cordial.

"A pleasure, lady Charna. I am Cécile. Are you the keeper of this land, the Toran Peninsula?"

Cécile needed to know if this Charna was someone who could give her the information she needed to make her way to Trollus. A stranger in an unfamiliar land, she was desperate for any information she could gather.

Charna Tanith let a low laugh rumble from her throat. To be honest, this mare's attempts to be brave was certainly rather hilarious.  It was a trick many tried to use to throw her off. Silly equines, not one soul has ever fooled a Vampryn.

She listened to the mare's polite, but rather weak words. Keeper of this land? She did not consider herself that, nor was she the queen of the Peninsula.  The firstborns would never allow that. With a slow huff, she spoke once more.

"I have, unofficially claimed this land, but to the country itself, it is considered a neutral land. Therefore, I am not the keeper. However, I do not see why I cannot welcome a new resident. This is the Toran Peninsula, one of the many the many lands in this lovely country."

Charna Tanith could smell the blood flowing from the frightened mare. Yes, she could practically smell the fear, there was not a single way to hide it.

"Calm down, my dear, you are going to give yourself a heart attack. I am not gonna eat you." She smirked.

Red Robin was in the grass basin drinking some water and eating some of the grass. Growing by the sea, it had become crisp with almost a sweet- salty taste from the salt in the air from evaporation of the ocean water. He watched as his mistress spoke to the mare that seemed to wash up or appear from the ocean water.

He nearly laughed at how pathetic the mare looked. He would not question if his Mistress had taken her under her wing, but the plant eating mare was still laughable. She seemed tiny to him.

The mare did not seem to be worth any time.
