Slayer of dragons

Bright eyes settled upon the bright lawn and spread of the flowered, trimmed gardens. Despite the darkness that seemed to envelope the skies, this seemed to be the only sort of land that held any sort of.... Brightness. Both Figuratively and Literally. The fireflies that danced among the little, nocturnal creatures made him hum in interest. A deep sound. His short tail swishing. The armor that would often cloak his hide was laying off to the side, but the helmet that masked the nightmare of a face beneath held strong.

It was rare that the stallion may remove the armor. He hadn't done so in what seemed like forever. The pelt in which it had originally covered was a darker shade compared to the pelt that had shown out from between the bone armor. It was lighter, as if sun bleached. His flaxen mane and tail moved in the soft breeze that seemed to dance around him to the silent song of the night.

The sound of chattering cause him to turn his head, a chuckle left his throat, a dragon like sound. His ears gave a soft twitch as he watched the large Caiman snap at a cloud of fireflies, as if they were the fish within her home marsh. He let a draconic coo escape his throat, unable to make the sounds of today's equestrian species. The vocals resembled a dragon's. Causing him to release howls and purring coos. When angered, instead of the signature stallion's snarl, he'd give what would sound like a rumble of snarling wolves.

"Sphinx. They cannot cause you harm, they are just little bugs." He moved slowly to his familiar's side, watching her hiss at the flies in a threatening manner. Something in which the flies only fluttered to. His bright blue eyes held amused curiosity. Never having seen fireflies up close, he could now see that they could be rather brave little things. He snorted out another chuckle, nudging the Caiman once more and turning to stroll through the beautiful gardens. "Gorgeous. I've never seen these lands." He purred out, it reminded him of the same lands he had met his mate, only one year ago.

With these thoughts, came a looming sadness. The Stars. Punishing him and his herd. Killing his mate. His babies.... The stallion shook his head with a deep growl at himself for thinking about his past. "Forget and move along." He reminded himself and huffed. Despite his trying.... Even being here.... It struck a pain within his chest that he hadn't felt in years. A longing. A cold hard longing to have at least been there to save them. To save his mate. But now, it seemed to be that he wanted some sense of... He jerked his head back. He couldn't be thinking this. I am Malsumis. Chieftain of The Rigid Rocklands. Slayer of Dragons. I will not fall to my knees for such weak thoughts.

Though, even then, these thought still came. Attacking relentlessly. Kicking, biting, ramming. It wouldn't stop. Refuted leaving him be. The caiman beneath him seemed concerned, though such was hard to express having the face of a reptile like her own. The rising sound in the back of Malsumis' throat made her back up, grunting softly. She knew what would come next. And within seconds of her thoughts, a ringing, draconic, howling cry broke the silence that was the night cloaked gardens. Sending the fireflies into hiding, and the night birds to their homes, their refuge. His cry was dark, melancholy. Something that would stand against pity, but begged for the heart and company of another. Even if just for an hour. For he had been alone and wandering for years, his Caiman mute. Speaking only to himself. Such was something that could drive a soul insane.

What strange creatures

Winter, as it was expected to be, was not being so gentle with her. Her efforts to regain lost weight felt in vein. She sighs with discontent as the cool air scraping by her as she laid sleepily amongst the flora. When she first got onto these lands, she looked on the brightside and thought, At least it isn't cold...But as if the elements of nature teased her on about her plight, came back months later to diminish her chances of getting bunches of food and in a constant hurry to find someplace warm. Tonight, below a darkened sky dimly light by passing fireflies, she laid there, sleeping away. Though she looked peaceful, inside was the constant dream she had since leaving her homeland, of her friends drowning in the water and her being powerless to help. Her inner turmoils, she locks them away within inside herself and keeps a calm, yet sassy and teasing demeanor on the outside of her body. Usually adorning her mane and tail with the pretty heads of flowers, they were bare currently. When spring arrived, she would be able to gather more flowers to place in her hair and complement her earthy colors. The pink bellied and shouldered mare had no idea someone was near her.

The dappled mare stirred to an odd noise. An odd noise that couldn't be distinguished while remaining dormant, so the mind forces the rest of the body to come awake so she can locate the source. Something grunting around her. She perked her ears up paranoidly, was there a predator here? She had not encountered any dangerous creatures when she first arrived, not including the diverse range of equines she has met already. A part of her wanted to believe that maybe there weren't anything like wolves or cougars around here. But the sound that stirred her... it was proving her doubts correct.

Her eyesight during darker hours weren't the greatest, and the fireflies weren't much of a help. If there were any dark figures hiding in plain sight, she would see them, lest they reveal themselves by smell, or by hearing, or by touch. Gently, in an attempt not to make much movements, the mare got up from her place and scanned the area, attempting to find a scent to pick up. But as she scanned, a monstrous noise, a noise that could surely only come from something incredibly terrible and dangerous boomed from behind her. Instictively, she let out a shrill whinny out of surprise at the sudden booming. The dappled female became more panicked and was more determined to try and locate a way out of the area to stay safe. But she didn't which way was an exit, and surely the creature who echoed into the night could see better than she could. So wouldn't initiating a chase would only give advantage to the predator? Perhaps it was better to stay low to the ground and hope they pass by. Making soft grunts, she quietly but quickly lays back down, trying to keep as low as possible, hoping whatever danger was there would pass her by.

Slayer of dragons

The stallion snorted out another chuffing sound. The whinnie of a distant mare causing his ears to press forward in interest. His stallion instincts may have been there, but he was a gentleman. Such actions were unnecessary for him. Hooves stomped and a soft, scoffing snort left his muzzle as he started ahead. He knew now that there was another equine here, and it was certainly a mare. Stallion and gelding did not have a call like this.

He nosed through the shrubbery, stepping carefully over the fauna to avoid trampling the plants. "Is someone there? Are you in trouble?" He called, unaware it had been his own call to frighten her. His voice was deep, a soft growl almost. Once again dragon like. "You are safe with me here. Whether or not I know you, I am a protector." He chuckled softly and flicked his tail, eyes curious. The mare, from what he could see with her laying, was a wonderous earthy dapple grey, a dark mane to adorn her body. Tail long and flowing. He could see she was smaller. "What is it that you run from?"

What strange creatures

It didn't take long for the entity to detect her presence with them. Her body quivered from the cool air and fear. The creature, from within the darkness, it calls out to her. Instead of a vicious roar that was erupted into the sky for all to hear, this time it was a low rumble, aimed towards her, as the soft crunching of hooves trodding on the grass grows louder slowly but surely. They ask if she was in danger, that they would protect her. She snorts quietly in response. As if she'd believe that. She doesn't know any predators who could speak the same tongue as a horse, but nowadays, she can't be too surprised on what she might see in her environment anymore. Almost everything now, she had to take with a grain of salt.

The sounds, the call, it kept growing closer. She debated in her mind, should she try and inch away from the oncoming silhuoette. The closer it got, the more she could a sort of clanking and clattering as well, as if someone was rubbing  two bones together and matched the rhythm of the beast's walking. What creature was with her in these gardens?

Suddenly, when she wasn't paying attention, the entity had found her. She looked up at the shadow enveloping her, and, even though with his face lowered and only inches from hers, her inadept eyes could not differentiate the night sky from the figure. She wore she could see horns and sharp features on him. All she could see was two blue irises staring right back at her. She pins her ears back defensively at the stranger, she wasn't all too friendly towards unfamiliar faces. He claims he is a protector, but she did not trust him. No guardian could look so menacing. How ironic for him to ask why she was running. Flabbergasted by the question, her reply isn't sugarcoated, though her words are due to an attempt to hide her fear from him. "Why, I don't know of any other beast tonight that is trying break the heavens with their bombastic tones." she snorts through her formalities.

The large stallion flicked his ears, lowering his body to try and make himself smaller. He could sense the fear, she reeked of it. With his bone armor having been off, other than the skull, he was able to lay comfortably, a good distance away from her, but still trying to seem non-threatening. Hard for such a dragonistic beast. He shook his head, shooing fireflies away from his ears and face, the bone skull rattling before he huffed.

The stallion blinked softly at her, even if she couldn't see him he held his genuine soft appearance. Barking out a drakish chuckle. "Ah, you start at my cries." He nodded in understanding. Slowly. He knew what she thought now. It had been himself to scare her, and despite his being used to this reaction, it still stung. Anyone fearing him stung, unless an opponent. "You've no need to fear me Kuláás. I am no demon, nor do I wish harm on you." He Barked out another growling chuckle, giving her plenty of room to distance herself even more than they already were. The Caiman, Sphinx, moved slowly to him, and despite his being unable to make the normal equine noises, he released an affectionate coo at the reptile, who in return gave a soft groan and lay at his side.

His glowish teal eyes returned to the mare before him, despite being unable to see most colour through the darkness, he was able to observe. The dark mane and tail, it was longer then he first thought while up close. Her eyes.... He believed from what he could see, were a hazel colour, seemingly cocoa bean. It wasn't easy to see this through black and white, as was all he could see through the darkness. "Sphinx wishes you to know that there are fireflies gathering near the pond, if you wish to see better. It won't provide much help to sight, but enough to soothe fear and worry Kuláás. I am Malsumis. You may address me as you please though."

What strange creatures

As the monster from the dark had settled in a short distance from her, he simply chuckles away her snappish remarks, his beastly sounds echoing in the adornment he wore that she couldn't see clearly. Once again, before he found her hiding away, he expresses his intentions to not harm the smaller mare. She snorts at this remark. "If that is your true intention, let it be known your tone betrays your words and motive."she says, lifting her neck from the ground. The beast had already found her, no point in keeping her head down and making the conversation anymore difficult than it already was. She had already learned months ago that these lands were strange and so were the inhabitants in it. She needed to ease herself on the huge culture shock she was experiencing over the astonishingly odd appearances of these equines- if she could even call them that. But this one, his hauntingly blue eyes glowing in the night and his suggestive silhouette implied to her that he was just a predator waiting to get close enough to gobble her up.

She hears more moving around her and the beast’s murmuring towards the sound. So he wasn’t alone... Her vision wasn’t good in the night as mentioned before, but she could see the creature a bit better than the larger beast. Mostly what she saw were short legs, long tail, slim muzzle and a huge set of teeth. The teeth was all she needed to see. Shuffling back a bit in fear, she whinnies, "What on earth is that?!" She had never seen a creature like that before in her homelands, not even a wolf had that much teeth and no predator she knew off had such a strange appearance, even more strange than the beast, she admits internally.

Her eyes lay fixated on where the creature lay but her ears kept attentive of him as he spoke once more. Addressing the creature as a Sphinx, he tells her of a pond nearby that could help soothe her fears. What exactly were they going to use to calm her, the water itself or the light of the fireflies to help see the beast before her better? The beast, it turns out, to have a name as well, caling himself a Malsumis. She felt no reason to introduce herself, no name belonged to her. Plus he already seemed to be comfortable with calling her a name in a language that was not her own. She won’t object to his pet name. She rose from the ground and turned in the direction of the pond. She has been in the Gardens for months, she knew where it was. As she began to retreat towards the water, she turned to see if the Malsumis and the Sphinx was coming.

"Felta's speech" | "Felta's thoughts"

OOC | Malsumis A bit of a disclaimer, she doesn’t really have her name yet, she came from a culture who doesn’t give each other names. So when he introduced himself and Sphinx, she is thinking that is what they are, not who they are.

His eyes were soft as she spoke to him, her attitude giving him doubts, she may not even trust him, especially after this. He had snuck up on her in the middle of the night. His tail swished softly, ears quivered. Her frightened tone made him coo at her in attempt to soothe her fears. "Nothing can hurt you here Kuláás." He attempted a nicker her way, perhaps a familiar sound would help soothe her.

The burning pain that shot up his throat as he attempted the call made him chuff our a cough. Forcing out another soothing sound before shaking his had to try and free himself of the burn. "I have no other way to speak. I cannot physically mimic the sounds of an average." He tried to reason softly. Ears pinning back. He blinked softly at her, nudging SPhinx. "My companion wishes no ill will. She greets you. She is a creature of the swamps. She hunts the mud fish. She will not hurt you." He chuckled out again, standing as she did.

His form was a looming hulk, but he was rather light for something so tall. His form was thin, but his structure made him seem so much more sturdy. Though he may have been big, his movements were near to silent, sushing through the grass as they drew closer to the pond, fireflies fluttering around his skull, landing near his eyes and jewelry, buzzing across his horns.

What strange creatures

The shadowed beast was doing everything he could to sooth her worries, her doubts, her paranoias. Yet she was doing very little to cooperate with him. Was it truly her fears getting in the way of building a trust with him, or was it her insomnia talking and grumpiness over being woken. He had explained how he could not control the way his voice shakes the ground and makes the sky quiver with every word he utters and how the creature that stood near him was merely pescatarian, but stubbornness and paranoia prevented her to view them any differently. She needed to see him, only then could she have a chance to get a proper opinion of his appearance.

Upon reaching the water, she bent down immediately took a drink from the water, taking in the refreshing taste of the tasteless liquid. She shook her head up after she was done, shaking off the water droplets that touched her mane when she bent down. Her stared out at the little fireflies dancing in the night sky, flickering to each other. How curious, they were as bright as the sun in the daytime. And when the sun went away to doze for the night, so these little insects come out to make up for the lack of light.

She looked up at the stallion who followed her here to see if the fireflies were bright enough to reveal the identity of the beast that the dark could not. Upon peering, and the dim light, she could put together his true appearance, albeit by a bit. But at least by coming over here, she was relieved to find he was an actual equine and not one imitating one. In fact, he was more equine than what she first assumed. And this fact made her more surprised than if he were to have actual horns. But no, his horns were not his, instead they were from the creature he wore around his body. A creature unknown to her as the Sphinx was. Aside from herself, he was the most equine being she has seen in a long time.

The Fireflies, in what his eyes, just seemed to make the night even brighter than it already had been, as bright as something could be in black and white anyways. While he could actively see in the dark, it was always a picture close to being black and white. Unlike the sun-up, colours were bright to him.

His ears gave a soft flick as she looked over at him, pinning his ears back and tilting his head softly. Giving a purr. Trying to soothe the fear, though she didn't give off a strong scent anymore. Rather it was a calm smell, relieved. He coughed a chuckle. "You see I am no demon now? But another creature like yourself. Cloaked with the bone of an enemy." He smiled at her, dipping to drink the refreshing liquid.

As it went, it was cold, a relieving on his throat. The cool waters left him at a comfortable temperature. To him this night was warmer than most, coming from a land where sun was often seen, but never felt. He still carried the thick pelt of a normal draft, snow horse. He was easily overheated. Even with the night being so cold as it was now, he couldn't feel anything but a scorching heat beneath his obnoxious layers of pelt. And the black colour in which he was equipped with certainly did not help his case. Even going as far as to sweat just a little.

The water to him was inviting, and her bent to shove his muzzle into the water, and fling it gently. Cloaking himself in the water, cold as the snows of his tribe lands. A loud, relieved purr vibrated his throat, and he shook out his long mane (Now long due to the revamp). He turned his face back to Felta and made a small motion. Urging her to follow. "Do you enjoy fauna? Peyt?" She seemed like someone to enjoy flowers. And gave a soft huff.

His mother had been a shaman. Very knowledgeable in the art of herbs and flowers, so it was trivial that he would know about the same. He had been in these gardens long enough to know his way. "There are winter blooms here north of our location. I could show you, if you want? A lot of the blooms are colourful. Even in the night they make themselves known. Peyt of the winter are blooming through ever season." Malsumis chuckled and snorted softly, blinking over to her. "But it is only if you wish to follow me Kulaas." Blue eyes blinked as he watched her expectantly. Trying to find any way to show that he truly meant no harm, even if she already felt that way.

What strange creatures

She felt herself cool down from her previous doubts and fears from before. She couldn’t deny his attempts at charming and soothing the smaller mare. Or at least, not internally. She was fairly quiet since they got to the wate, but her thoughts were active in her head. She remembered a stallion as dark as him. His mane wasn’t as bright as his cream mane, and, skies forbid, he was as tall as this one was, but it was still enough of a resemblance for her to remember him. Of course, like her, he no name, other than, black stallion probably.

Gently teasing the dame over her paranoia, he vaguely explains the accesories were from the carcass of an enemy unknown to her. How strange... she thought to herself, her eyes looking down at the bone plates. His choice of accessory contrasted from her own. He wore cartilage of a fallen enemy. Was it for status, for added defense, or to hide away something from the public? The dappled mare had very little clue. Varying from him, she would adorn colorful flowers around her mane and tail. She was merely a mare of only earthly tones, exlcuding her pink muzzle and her fading scarred belly and knees, so she turns to the brightly shaded petals to accesorize herself. Though she tore flower heads from their stems and drain them of their life source, she does not view the plants as her foe, her enemy. No, she adored flowers with every ounce of her being, and she couldn't see herself changing her opinion of them anywhere soon.

As if he was peering into her thoughts, he derails her by asking her about her opinion on the flora, after partaking in a drink in the water before them. She blinked and looked at him. He seemed to be walking away now and is trying to signal her to follow. He tells her of winter blossoms in a certain direction that he'd like to show her. At first she did nothing but stare at him and contemplated her options. He had already proved he was just as horse as she was, despite such a beastly tone. Seeing as she had nothing better to do, the insomniac didn't want to go back to her haunting dreams yet, she made a motion towards him to suggest she was allowing him to lead the way. She hope she could keep up in the dark. He was bigger, but walking farther away from the light of the fireflies makes the stallion faze back into darkness, where only his eyes could be seen by her.

The scent she gave off, seemed to hold no fear for him, and he smiled softly at that. She was a sweet mare, didn't deserve to fear anything the way she did with him. He couldn't help but pin his ears back at the thought of what could have made her so paranoid. These thoughts were pushed to the back of his mind as he looked back at her. Even if she could see nothing but his eyes, they held nothing but reassurance.

Going through the gardens, his tail seemed to drag across the grass, growing damp from gathering the mildew from the fauna with each step. The bone armor making little sound over his graceful gait. Even if she couldn't see what he saw, he knew she'd be pleased with a new change of scenery. The grass was going from long and unkept, to rather pleasant in length, he could see small blooms peeking up at him, nothing compared to what they were coming on soon however.

He tensed as he made his way over the rise. Bringing his hip beneath him to ease back down the slope on the other side without any kind of hiccup. "Just this way Kuláás. The Peyt are divine. I rarely see such well kept blooms. I'm sure you'll enjoy them." His deep voice held the smallest bit of childish excitement, a bounce in his step, head bobbing casually.

Malsumis' ears pressed forward as he listened for any warning Sphinx may give to him, of an intruder or such. Nothing came, but he'd definitely keep an open ear. "I should hope you like the Pey- Flowers? I believe this is how you would say in the language here." He chuckled at his knowledgeable self, nosing through thick fauna, then once again through the branches of trees, before breaking through.

The sight before him was marvelous. Illuminated by the bright colour of the blooms, and the touch of fireflies made it seem utterly magical. Bushes of blooming Honeywort, Stalks of Moon Blooms, Fuschia - the edible, sweet tasting nectar plant- that bloomed in arrays of pinks, reds, and purples. These were only a few of the many flowers and fauna that grew here. And the smell it gave made him relax instantly. Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme. The strongest scents from them all.

Off to the corner of the large clearing, lay a bedded down area, the grass trampled down. He had been staying her for a while. A curious traveller. Far from his herd. Though he would be returning soon. He had been pleased to know that he may be able to recruit this mare. Save her from the cruel life of a lone wanderer. Show her the herd life was much more enjoyable. "Please Kuláás. Take a look, explore if you want." He chuckled, nodding to her.
