never considered it futile
to carry the weight of your pain

There must be a sickness coming upon him. It certainly could be the problem with chills running through spine and skin. World feeling uneven under his footing. Even if it were the oncoming reign of the colder months, nothing tastes right. Not a thing sounded or felt appropriate to their base. A power rubbing him the wrong way, kicking him onward to where mind rather not be. Long exhale shrunk his lungs, pace keeping to a certain rhythm. Once more has limbs brought him away from abode and back into the territories stretching across this region. He knew he needed to fill his skull with what has brought itself upon preferred environment, but he could not care for it. He played guardian for a good bit, all would be fine to slip away for just the moment.

Mountains were given a pass, Kauri deciding to take an easy path for this quick trip. Direction was one he was sure of; the garden stood the one place he had in line. Mayhaps he would look for more gems. Last discovery left him grasping for its meaning. Although the boy did not know how it would solve underlying discomfort, he could hope that it would fix itself. Checking on Naiosé in which they loped along, he would give the little fox a ride for the rest of the way there.

There went the many different perfumes tickling his nose. Now here... skull dropped below spine as he sauntered further into the garden. He sought for the few minutes to pass but focus drifted once any promises were not whispered. Nature did not appear to be in an offering mood this visit. By the time he touched the other side of this place’s border, stars were beginning to spot the sky. Though a bit dragged, features brightened themselves when realizing he was close to an unknown territory. He would monitor the air before crossing over into the new area. It held the same serenity as the garden’s but also a strange feeling he could not explain his liking to. Studying the surrounding nature, hearing was caressed by the rush of a waterfall.

Pleasing this all was. With the falling water in his view, he bowed to let companion get a touch of the earth, leading them to having a go at the fireflies dancing around here. Legs folded in allowing the stallion to lay down. Despite being relaxed, orbs could not help but to wander aimlessly; thoughts processing the scenery. Notions were flaring, heart sinking with each one that chose to intrude.

EZERA

Silence is our Fate

The mute unicorn hadn't been to the unique pool since stepping down from being queen. It was a place that intrigued her but exploring hadn't been at the forefront of her mind lately. Her daughter had occupied that space ever since the day she had vanished within the fog. Even when the mare had been trying to lead a herd she hadn't been completely there. No matter how hard Ezera had tried to focus on the Carinae members she never really was as invested as a Queen should have been. She felt both guilty for leaving but also relieved that their fates were no longer resting on her shoulders.
Now that Iracebeth had returned the unicorn was finally able to breathe freely. She hadn't realized how much her worry, fear, and guilt had felt like a band around her chest. It hadn't felt like suffocation at the time but now that she could feel the difference it amazed her to think that she had been able to get enough air. The guilt was still there, it would always be, but the worry and fear were lessened. It was an odd feeling, almost as if she were light enough to fly if she had wings. We wouldn't be fit for flying. Ezera sent a soft laugh through the connection she had with the snake. He did have a point, she liked her hooves flat on the ground.
The mare was usually so alert and cautious of the area around her, but not today. Today she was too relieved and tired to be on constant alert. Voski would warn her if anything or one was nearby. Her mind had just started to wonder again when he let out a soft hiss and moved along her back until he was looking over a shoulder. Ezera paused in her movements, suddenly alert despite her exhaustion. Golden eyes peered through the trees and caught a glimpse of bright among the green. An old feeling of terror tried to take over her mind but the unicorn shoved it away. Being frozen in fear by every new being that she came across would be more harmful than helpful.
Instead she took a few more steps so that the trees no longer obstructed her vision. The being was a stallion, but a young one. This didn't mean she could let her guard down but it did make the paralyzing terror back off. Ezera shuffled her hooves a bit so that her body rustled the branches, alerting the stranger to her presence. The small python on her back hissed again, this time a bit louder to try and help in alerting.

never considered it futile
to carry the weight of your pain

Something felt to be gripping his neck and pulling him closer to the earth. He did not have the strength to power through the strange force, legs shifting to have more weight on one side. Head reaching out as if trying to reach or smell a particular thing. Necklace restraint hardly let up, stuck in a stalemate with this being that had him hooked. He knew their displeasure was from negligence on himself, heavily breathing out. Violets were covered in deepening self in his mind. However, a sound pried them open, body going into high alert. Skull and ears were facing in the direction of the noise, eyes looking for any shadow that could be seen.

All was good in this little attention grab; although the alarming noise of an animal they feared in the desert brought the stallion quick onto his hooves and made his logic shut down. Instincts took the reins, a squeal leaving his throat. There was a snake around here and all he could think of was to get hostile. Companion ran back to him with their own defenses up and a small growl. He was locked on the spot where he last heard the hiss, steps hesitant as they brought him slightly closer, stopping where he could run off if a strike did happen.

After a moment of scoping the scene, he finally caught view of an equine that seemed to be the culprit behind causing the rustling previously. He angled his head in trying to understand this stranger’s appearance; more so the material in which hung from their mouth. The more he thought, the more he believed he was looking at a ghost. “You’re quite calm considering there’s a snake around,” he said, having not fully realized the snake was with this stranger unicorn. Moving even more near, he peered up at them given their size, nose barely touching her chest as he examined her. Naiosé sniffed about her as well, sitting between the youth’s forelegs once done. “Are you trying to hide from someone or simply watching me?” Eyes narrowed, form still standing in the mare’s space.

Despite the stranger being just a colt the unicorn couldn't help the icy terror that slid through her veins as he approached. The last time a stallion had been this close was... Well, it hadn't been a time she wished to remember. And yet the mare was unable to make her legs move back, to put some space between them. Voski hissed again, this time in a warning for the young male to back off. The snake didn't care that he wasn't big enough to do any damage, just that his companion was terrified and it was because of this stranger.
Ezera hadn't had time to process what he had said at first due to his approach and now it took a bit longer than normal for her mind to recognize that he had asked a question. Even if she had been able to speak she would have just shaken her head in a "no" to both of those ideas. The mare was neither hiding nor watching although she wasn't able to specify what exactly she had been doing. Sure, the boy had a companion, but the mute was still too uncomfortable with his nearness to focus on speaking with the fox.
After a moment the unicorn was able to move her legs, stumbling back until she ran up against a tree. She hadn't realized her breath was stuck in her lungs until she had escaped the closeness of the boy. The breath rushed out and another filled her lungs almost immediately. Wide golden eyes stared at the stranger while Ezera tried to control the fear. She hated herself for this reaction, hated that it would be like this for a long time. Her approach to unknown beings, even female, was forever tainted by one horrible moment in her past.
Voski moved until he was perched between the mare's ears, his eyes narrowed and focused on the one that didn't seem to believe in personal space. He couldn't speak with him or the fox but his expression was clear, or so he hoped. It could be difficult to read expressions on other creatures. Ezera was grateful for his presence even while she felt slightly humiliated for her reaction.
